Whatever happened to this product?

I remember one could solder different tabs on this component and create lots of different fixed values. Then one day they disappeared from the market. Where are they now?

What? You mean I shouldn't design all my circuits using Bourns 10 turn pots in place of every resistor?

And before you ask, yes I use the screwdriver tip of my soldering iron to adjust them, just like the device pictured!

Boy how I wish I could get a 6 decade resistor substitution box in a 0603 package for 3 cents each. I would never have to buy a rrsistor again.

I think I saw a dusty crate of 50,000 of them in the local liquidation warehouse.
(you asked what happened to them)

I guess somebody's order got derailed. Thanks for the info. I am going to email Bourns shortly and ask them why they are not manufacturing them anymore.

Everything in my area gets bought-up by, and shipped to China.
You might check with some of those China-based vendors.
They buy everything the Americans don't want to warehouse anymore.

I am more interested in why that product was not a commercial success. I emailed Bourns couple of days ago asking that question. Thus far, I have not received an answer.

If it's anything like what I frequently deal with, the college kids working at Bourns to answer your question, were not born when the product was made. For them, if it's not something they can look-up in current product offerings, they have no idea what you're talking about.
(and they were made before companies started putting their data on computers, so they may not have bothered entering data on previous product lines that they no longer support)
Who knows, whomever got your email, may find an old Bourns employee who knows what you're talking about(?)
