What size power pack would replace 4 AA batteries?

Gidday guys

I have a battery powered pencil sharpener (4x AA) which I'd like to hook up to a power pack instead.

I'm guessing 6v, but what milliamps would do the trick?

1A (one amp) should be plenty. You might get away with 500 mA (1/2 amp) but there wouldn't be much cost difference, so I would go for a 1A adapter.
