What size hole do you drill for a 22/4 cable prewire

1/4" look a little big.

Thanks,

Gus

Where's Bass's Q&A when you need it...

Not at all. You do not want any drag on the wire when you are pulling
through it, especially if you are pulling through multiple holes for one run
or if the wire is running at an angle. Be sure to seal any draft stops or
top and bottom plates if accessable. These are your verticle runs. Fire
caulking is best. We usually use a 3/8 inch hole. 1/4 is fine.

Hi Gus,

I usually drill a 1/4" hole for 22/4 alarm wire (aka "quad cable").

The FAQ website is on its own server. The server is going to be off line
for a few more days while I set up the new DSL connection. I took it down
due to the evacuation. There will be a new URL for the FAQ website. I'll
post it here and in the automation newsgroups when it's ready.

The online stores are running on our new server in California and were
unaffected by hurricane Charley.

So you keep posting a "dummy link", you "dummy"... :))

If the cable will be run through multiple studs or joists I agree. Use a
slightly larger hole. However, if it's only going through a single
opening -- say from a PIR down to the basement -- I've found a 1/4" hole is
fine. When drilling doors I prefer a 1/4" wire hole (slightly recessed into
the 3/8" hole for the switch). I find it's easier pushing the quad cable
through if the hole isn't too large.

And once again, the entire group rolls its eyes.
