I did! Funny story about that.
I got the skin off some grapes that grow in our yard with the powdery white stuff that I learned as yeast. I grew this for about 3 weeks, first just in water (the whole peel) then strained and adding flour, taking it through 5 or 6 feedings. Then I made a loaf. The taste was quite sour. I liked it, but the lovely wife Morticia did not. When I wasn't around, she threw away the starter!
The gift this year was to make up for that.
Is you little bench for wood carving? Morticia was taking lessons at one time and I made her a small bench very much like what you showed. Later we both made a full sized traditional workbench with dogs and vises.
