Vertical hold problem

Strange problem, wonder if anyone knows what it could be. I am in
Europe and have a Grundig television. I get my local channels from an
antenna and also have a satellite system. It seems that especially in
the winter for some reason, I get a vertically rolling screen when
viewing antenna channels on the TV. The picture is stable, however, if
I record through the VCR or watch the local channels on the VCR's tuner
through the satellite system. So I think it has to be the TV, but am
not sure what exactly the problem is (cables, bad signal that the VCR
"cleans" up, malfunctioning vertical hold on the TV, etc...) The TV is
only 4 years old and has no vertical hold controls.

If anyone knows anything, or has any questions, I'll monitor here or you
can email me if you want.

Thanks,

Plato

Sounds like low signal levels in winter. The VCR is more sensitive and locks
better. Is the antenna internal (in room) or outside?

The antenna is in the attic. Just noticed this morning that if I play a
video through the channels on the TV (not through the AV input) I get
the same rolling. So now I am wondering if it is the cable from the VCR
to the TV. But why only in the winter? Haven't had this problem since
about last March.

Check the video on someone else's system.

Either moisture is affecting the signal, or temperature is affecting a
connection. I'd check and tighten them as a first step.

Get a new VCR to TV cable and try it.

You may be receiving a major ghost rather than a direct signal, and the
ghost may be affected by weather - a hillside perhaps?
