Vert hold not working

I have an older Toshiba TV #CX2055. Recently the picture started
rolling and the Vert adj. doesn't real "lock" the picture in place.
It'll get close and then it'll start rolling again. I'm no
technician, but is this an inexpensive fix for a TV repair? I
otherwise love this TV! Thanks in advance!

The vertical sync isn't getting through somewhere, I would suspect it to not
be a hugely expensive repair, but there's no way of knowing what the problem
is without having a tech look at it.

20" tele, repairs at a shop may run anywhere from $50 - $100 depending on
actual cause. Diagnostic time and labour will be the highest items on the
bill. Probably an item that has either failed due to age. May want to check
out a new item and then decide on what you wish to do with the older set.

Are older TV's usually built better than new ones? As far as being
repairable? Do you think that since one part is failing that many
others are soon to follow?Sometimes all this digital TV stuff gets me
down. I'd much rather turn knobs than read "menus". Maybe I should
keep the old girl. Had her since 1985 and never has been a problem
til now! I think that's incredible!

Agreed, some of the old designs were quite a bit more reliable than the off
shore "Taiwan", "Indonesia" , Etc manufactured devices. However, cost vs.
age vs. reliability with your 1985 unit having all it's components at least
20 years old?? Your $$$$$$ Eh Gov. Toshiba still is a respectable item at
a reasonable price. Check out Circuit City, Best Buy, Wallmart, Etc.

Check the 22uF and 47uF Caps near the vertical chip. One of them is leaky,
and about to fail!
