Using an audio pot help

Hi,
If I'm using a 3 pin potentiometer and the right audio channel is flowing through it to a female audio jack. If I then plug headphones into that will sound only play through the right headphone? I'm assuming that's the case but hoping its not...

it all depends on the type of jack and socket and how you wire them.
