Using a Laptop in the Mid-East - Convertor Question

Dear people,

I found this site via google and decided to ask my questions to people on it since I believe they understand more than me in electronics.

I'm supposed to travel to the mid-east (Israel and the area) and I would like to use my laptop there. For that, I need to find the right convertor, Problem is that there are so many products on the market and at the same time horror stories of things don't work, crack or explode with some convertors.

I own a Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook, which I really, really want to keep in working conditions overseas. That is to say, I don't want to take risks with trying things on it that might damage its hardware. Last time in that area of the world I used a local convertor who charged my other laptop but the battery got really warm really fast.

You don't say where you are coming from. I am going to assume U.S. If not, please ignore!

Most laptop power adaptors will work on either 110 or 220V. Check yours and see if the is the case, it should say something like Input: 100-240V if it is.

If it can work on 240V, then all you need is an adaptor from a U.S. style wall plug to an Israel one. Like this one;

Yes, from the U.S.
the only thing that relates to that in the back of the laptop says:

INPUR ENTRADA 19V=2.5A (40W)

Where else should I look, in the manual of the laptop?

It might not if it doesn't mention it. The adapters I linked to are specifically for Israel, so it must be different than others.

You want to look at your power brick, not the laptop to find out what voltage it can handle.

I'd email Samsung with your model and serial number, and ask them.
My son's laptop works without alteration in the U.K., U.S., and India.

Yeah, the charger is the most important part

If you have one which says the input s from 90V to 265V then you're pretty much good to go everywhere in the world (typically even on aircraft with 400Hz power).

Often you'll find supplies rated 100V to 220V, which should be fine even for countries claiming 240V (or even 250V) mains as most of them are compliant with the international standard for 230V. (However, I wouldn't be anywhere near as happy.)
