Unknown LCD module: LPH7765-1

T

Tim Gerla

I just received a batch of mysterious-looking LCD modules. They are
about 45mm wide and 20mm tall. They have a 7-pin ribbon cable
connector. Several numbers are inscribed on the plastic: LPH7765-1,
which returned a Google match to a gigantic list of LCD modules,
including a line for the LPH7765:

LPH7765 PHILLIPS CHARACTER DISPLAY 13200

Subsequent Google searches returned no additional information. Any
idea how I can obtain specs and control information on these?
Rows/cols, are they dot-matrix?

Thanks.

could be out of a cell phone. I have one with 11 pins and no data,
from a cell phone. Can see the dot matrix positions faintly.

I got a bunch of these too, from All Electronics. I think I have 10 of them.
I spent a few days trying to get them to light up. They eventually went into
the junk box...

I did take one apart. Very interesting technology, it has a control chip
embedded into the glass, along with micro traces to the various rows and
columns of the display. You can see the circuitry on the chip through the
glass (The chip was originally hidden in black tape to prevent light from
affecting the semiconductors.)
