universal start/stop timer

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and fairly new to electronics. A few months back my brother-in-law gave me the velleman start/stop timer kit. I've successfully assembled it and now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to use it for.

Have any of you used this for anything or have examples for what it can be used for? Thanks!
