TV Tuner Replacement??

I have an RCA L26WD12 I rescued from recycling. It works great, except the TV tuner is boned. It only gets a few of the 70+ channels at my home. It looks like someone busted the cable jack off the back, and then for their 1st ever soldering project, they tried to repair it. I realize I could use a cable box to the HDMI, etc ports, but where I would like to use it, only a coax hookup is available. So my question is:

1) Can I bypass paying the cable company a monthly fee for a box by getting an adapter like a coax to hdmi plug? Is there something out there?

2) Where do you buy replacement tv tuner boxes? I can solder and replace, i just don't know where to buy one.

no you are not likely to find a coax to HDMI adaptor as they are 2 totally different systems
Tuner modules are relatively standard in their pinouts get another old TV, etc to rat one out of
how badly damaged is the tuner module input ? you may be able to solder in a coax fly lead directly to it.

The TV is a 26" LCD. The bad tuner is a 15 pin I believe. The metal box it is in says Thomson and the sticker on the side says "FE 6242A" and below that is "21452390". To the right of that is "61750009543".

This particular TV has 2 tuners...1 for analog and 1 for digital. Since we have cable, the analog is the one I need. I tried to removed the hack job jack and solder on a new one from Radio Shack. This improved the picture slightly, but not much. The board on the existing tuner is pretty rough looking, like its taken a beating.

So, does it HAVE to be a 15 pin tuner I replace it with? The digital tuner on the same board is smaller, but would it work? If so, what do I need to do? I could buy a replacement board for it for about $30-70, but I am cheap, and the learning experience of this is MUCH MUCH more fun for me.

The larger tuner is the one that is busted on mine. I have some lcd tuners I could use, but I just wasn't sure if it had to be the exact same size, pin config, etc.

Sorry, I'm new to all of this. I'm having a blast learning all of this, but things like this are outside of where I'm at right now. It is nice to have experts to deal w/ my inexperience.

I ended up buying the tuner above for $30+shipping on ebay. It came today and i installed it, and it works great now. I'm so excited to have this tv working again!
