True of false?

Nope. The grid appears to be of squares at first glance, but the horizontal
distance between gridlines decreases slightly from left to right.
Moving the blocks frees up the space. If you actually measure the width of a
shape in one image and compare it to the other, you'll find it longer or
shorter depending on position. Clever optical illusion.

Optical illusion.

The red and green hypotenus are not aligned.
Red angle is a ratio 8/3, while the green one is 5/2.

On the first graphic, red and green form an 'arrow' pointed to the bottom,
on the second one the 'arrow' points to the top. The difference in surface
is one block. Check it with the position of the junction point : not exactly
on the line of the other graphic.

To reinforce the above, some simple arithmetic

Upper Figure.

Overall: Appears to be 5 x 13 / 2 = 32.5 squares
Parts: Green: 5 x 2 / 2 = 5
Red: 3 x 8 / 2 = 12
L. Green = 8
Orange = 7
Total = 32

So the complete figure is NOT a triangle

Lower Figure

Overall: Appears to be 5 x 13 / 2 minus 1 = 31.5

Actual is 32 as above

The difference between the two "appears to be" is the one square.
