Transformerless psu calculations

I'm looking for information on the calculations needed to get specific output voltage and amps in a transformerless psu.
I have seen many examples but without the theory in how to calculate the values of the components to be use.

Does anybody could show how is done, or direct me to the right place, please.

Use these values as an example in the calculations please (if you are going to explain it yourself )
Input: 120vac at 15 amps
Output: 18vdc at 3 amps
I know is not recommended to have high current with transformerless psu. What is the limit?
Please use the max amps output value that you know is secured .
