Transformer ratings Europe to Uk

Hello, I purchased a studio desk from Europe and it has motorised legs. To power the legs it arrived with a transformer with the flowing ratings. 230V 50HZ and 180W.

As the ratings looked good for the UK (i thought) I changed the European lead for a Uk lead into the transformer and the transformer went bang.

The manufacturer is sending out a new transformer, but I am curious to know why it didn’t take the UK AC current? Also I am worried they will send the same transformer.

can anybody help me understand it?

Those ratings of 230v @ 50Hz are UK ratings.
Are you sure the legs were working before you bought it?.
Are you sure the transformer was working?.

Martin thanks, I thought that too, but it was the transformer that lets out the crack, when I opened it, it was all black inside. The LED display on the table did light up for a few seconds before the transformer let out the crack sound. So that’s why I am worried it will happen again. The black ash material was around the transformer part inside the transformer box....the coil if you know what I mean.

it’s a bit of a mystery.

Can you post photos of the blown transformer pls?.
The ratings are fine so only thing that comes to mind is damage in transit. Possibly a wire broke loose and shorted the transformer.

Ah yes, sorry, this site requires you re-size them a little. I don’t know why.
You can use MSpaint or an online photo resizer.
I just shrink a little and try again. Although screen captures seem to work.

Sorry to bombard you, and thank you for your help, the network port is for the LED screen that did light up before the crack... the two white ports are for the leg motors...

Thanks for the photos.
I can’t see a possible stray wire causing a short. But still doesn’t mean it wasn’t damaged in transit.
I did notice the casing has two voltages. Normally a power supply (which yours is) has voltage ranges from 90v-230v in switching power supplies. Yours has two voltages written separately,
110v
230v.
Now, does that casing/box have a switch to change voltages?.

Martin, no it doesn't have a switch and I also looked very carefully on the circuit board for any dip switches or anything that would switch voltage but nothing. And yes I wondered why it had the two voltages on the label. I have noticed the motors are labelled on the circuit board as 5V each, and i am hopefully the LED display via the network cable isn't damaged now. They said they have messaged the manufacturers that are europe based for a new controller and they wuld ensure it was UK rated but I just dont feel they get the issue as they kept just saying its the lead.

Its a real frustration as its a £1700 desk, i guess i will have to wait for the replacement and hope it sorts it out..

Maybe they know of issues with the cable or power supply which is why they’re happy to send one to you. See what happens when it arrives and hopefully all will be well.

I know others here will want other info in the meantime, so you might as well answer those up front if you don’t mind?.
Where you plug the IEC C7 connector (mains), there are black capacitors (cans), can you give the voltages of those?. It’s written on them. Also the yellow safety X2 cap (rectangle) by the mains input?. Thanks.
