Tools to check current [uA]

Hi all,

I am currently developing a system which includes some components and a Micro-Controller.
I would like to know what tools can be used to measure the exact current being consumed by the system (the system uses 2 regimes : Active and Sleep. I need to check the current being consumed in both of them. Sleep mode current units should be at range of [uA]).

An Ammeter with a μA range perhaps?

Both of my modest level multimeters will read down to 1/10 th of a μA. Just tried it with a 1Meg resistor and 0.3V source, which was as low as my variable power supply would go. Both read 0.3 on the μA range.
