That damn smoke detector

R

Robert Latest

So a while ago this thing starts emitting a very short, obnoxious chirp
every fifteen minutes. Oh no. It's that time again: Battery going flat.
And my neighbor from whom I usually borrow the ladder not home. Goof
thing the wife ain't home neither because she probably would have
divorced me after seeing me balance on top of a precarious stack of
unfit furniture to take the damn thing down.

Thou shalt replace those batteries regularly. We have a check list for
this stuff, new ones for all detectors in March and in September.

In my case I have to bemoan the stupidity of placing smoke detectors in
a kitchen. I've since taken the TWO that were in my kitchen out, put
standard C0 detectors in and not had a problem.

The only smoke detectors are now in the bedrooms. None in the kitchen,
dining or living room.

Farnell stock lithium-manganese 9V batteries in a PP3 can - every ten
years of so I buy a batch and stick them in my smoke detectors. It's
still a chore, but a much lower frequency chore than with regular
alkaline cells.

The order code for the part is 299-390 and they are 10.30 euro
apiece ...
