Supplier needed for 8x8 LED Matrix displays

B

Bob Armstrong

Can anyone tell me a supplier for 8x8 LED matrix displays? At one
time they were fairly common, but after checking all my usual
suppliers now (e.g. Digikey, Mouser, Newark, Arrow, etc) I can't seem
to find any.

This is for a small quantity production application, so I'd prefer a
regular stocking supplier as opposed to a surplus place (because I'd
like to be able to buy the same parts again six months from now!).

BTW, I know that 5x7 LED matrix displays are pretty easy to find,
but I really need a square array.

Thanks,
Bob Armstrong

Hi Bob! Good to hear that you're still hacking :)

Digikey doesn't stock everything in the Fairchild opto catalog, but they
can order them fairly reliably if you can wait a few months and the
quantity you have to buy for such a non-stock order is often surprisingly
small. Look for the Fairchild part numbers that have "88" at the end for
the 8x8 arrays.

Hi Bob,

Have a look at the BC these;
http://www.nexusmachines.com/Products/displays/bxxcdm.htm

They are serial controlled and cascadable, i use them myself and find
them quite handy.

Agreed. You can buy them quantity 1 from RS http://www.rswww.com or Farnell
http://www.farnell.com, but last time I looked Farnell were cheapest. Or if
you need 275 of the B64CDM like I did, then direct from the manufacturer!
What am I doing with them? see
