Stereo Receiver Right Channel Distortion.

I have a Harman kardon AVR 10 that has right speaker channel distortion. I don't have a scope or a capacitor tester though, is it possible to find the problem just using a multimeter? What would be the first place or component to check?
Thanks

Have you tried the LEFT speaker on the RIGHT channel?.
Can you rule out speakers and speaker wiring?.
Martin

Yeah, I ruled out the wiring and speakers trying different speakers and wires and also listening with the headphones, I didn't hear any distortion in the headphones. I already checked the pots and the balance and volume and that's not it. Not sure if it would be a dirty speaker relay, but I'm not sure if it even has one.

No speaker relay. There is a protection scheme though, an amplifier overcurrent or high offset will trigger the CPU to turn off power. So anyway, it's not a dirty speaker relay. If the distortion is most noticeable at low volumes, and mostly goes way at higher volumes, it could be an issue with Idle current.

It sounds worse as you raise the volume. Sounds like it's being blasted on that channel.

As you have a multimeter and one good working channel, you should be able to check and compare voltages.
Open it up and take some close, clear photos of both sides of the board.

Edit: this audio video receiver has front and rear speakers, so quite a bit more complex.
Does the balance control Left front and left rear?.
Is the distorted channel Front and Rear speaker?.

No, the balance doesn't control the rear speakers left and right and no, there is no distortion in any of the rear channels

There is distortion in the front Right channel only, all the other channels are fine. I hear it when playing the radio and when using the inputs.

Does the unit have pre-out/main-in jumpers? If so, you could cross them (right out to left in, vice versa) and see if the problem changes channels.

R223R was burnt and fell apart when I poked it. It shows its an 82 ohm resistor, but what does 1/5W +5% mean? Does it have to be a specific kind?

OK, so you could replace the resistor, but it will most likely get hot and burn out again. (or there may have been a short with Q210R, and it has magically survived).

If it does, then we can search nearby for the faulty component.

Did anyone short the speaker terminals by accident? Or play something extremely loud? If we know what happened just before you noticed the fault, it could be useful in figuring out what went wrong.

Have you measured the dc output voltage of the channel in question with respect to 0V assuming it has a split supply.
