So I put a tape in my Sony VCR the otherday. It didn't play and it
didn't want to eject. Apparently the left sid of the tape was
physiclally broken before I put it in. I got the tape out, but now
the VCR says 71501 on the display like it is trying to give me an
error code. It will only accept a new tape if I put the tape in and
then hit eject. (pushing on the tape does not activate the mechanism
like normal) Then it brings the tape cartridge in, opens the little
door on the tape, and pulls part of the tape out around the head.
Almost immediately after that, the arms that pulled out part of the
tape go back into hiding, but the tape does not go back into the tape
cartridge. The tape then immidately ejects (with it's entrails still
hanging), and comes to rest in the beginning position. I can
carefully pull the tape out, but then I must open the door on the tape
cartridge and manually rewind the small amount of tape that it chewed
on. All this would be resonable, if I could just watch the tape.
Unplugging the VCR does not clear the error, if that makes any
difference. I did open it up and found a little plastic piece broken
off, but I put it back on (and the spring that was with it) It looks
almost like it acts as a brake for for the right spindle. That seems
to be working just fine now, but it made no difference in the
malfunction of the machine. Any Thoughts? Any Help? Time to buy a new
VCR?
Thanks in Advance,
Jeremy
