Sony monitor repair????

R

RB

I have a Sony E220 17" CRT monitor, it died with a large bang and inspection
revealed the FET in the power supply has gone (dead short) and a couple of
1/8 watt resistors near it.

The FET isnt a big problem to obtain but the resistors are charred beyone
recognition so I phoned Sony hoping to buy a service manual but they
reffered me to one of there agents in Melbourne who when called told me they
are no longer repairing Sony monitors, so I called another monitor repair
place who again no longer repair Sony due to lack of schematics and hard to
obtain parts. Finally I found a place in Melbourne who will fix it but (Im
200K's away) it will cost me around $40 in freight and they quoted a
standard charge of $150+ to fix any 17" Sony.

Its a reasonable monitor but with brand new Philips 107's available
wholesale for around $190 with 3 years warranty not worth spending that
amount of money on, but it seems a shame to chuck it out.

Anyone have any ideas where I can get a schematic and I'll attempt to repair
it myself.

Thanks

Speedy Spares in Melbourne ((03)93761333) are SONY spare parts agents. Call
them -- they might be able to help you.

Also, High Country Service Data will happily rent you the manual
(www.hcsd.com.au).

Or I may have it at home in PDF format, but I will have to check. Is there
other model number, like CPDxxx or GDMxxxx?

Thanks for all the suggestions, a gentleman has emailed me the service
manual. Monitor is in bits (what a job that was!) resistors replaced and
awaiting FET from Speedy

Hope you ordered a SONY FET, not a generic replacement. My experience with
SONY -- you have to use genuine SONY parts (at premium SONY price). Generic
part may fail shortly.
