Sony KV-20TR22 Need to hit Select on Remote

Hey this may seem like a trivial problem but I am sick of hitting
select after the channel # on my remote. Is this an issue with the TV
or is it a function of the remote??

Had a similar Sony input scenario. had to enter 002 for ch 2, 059
for ch 59, etc. Always needed 3 keys. have you tried that?

The TV and remote are designed for each other but
I'd say remote in this case.

I recently got a very nice flat panel TV but sent it back
because of the horrible design of the channel selection dialogs.
I just couldn't cope with about a dozen button pushes to add a
channel to the lineup.

I'm still searching for a new set.
I'd like to locate one with Guide Plus, but that feature
seems to have dropped off the edge of the earth.
It's surprising to me that these companies spend all this
money on loading up their sets with pixels and can't spring
for a few extra bucks for PIP and channel guides.

I have two or three Sony TVs of various vintages. All of them do this,
and I consider it a crappy human factors design element that Sony should
have gotten rid of years ago. I doubt there is anything you can do
about it, though.

By contrast, I have an old Magnavox el cheapo set. To change channels,
I just hit the number buttons. After each button, the TV waits a moment
to see if I am going to hit any more buttons, and if I don't, it goes to
the selected channel. In other words, if I just hit "5", it goes to
channel 5. If I hit "5" and then "7", it goes to channel 57. Etc.

Why expensive Sony's can't do this, I'll never know.

Yet another reason not to buy a Sony. Sonies are just overpriced pieces

I don't want to pay anything every month
and don't see why I should have to pay a monthly
charge for something that encourages me to watch
more television.

The TV manufacturer did pick up the expense.
The set I have now includes Guide Plus.
I don't know how much the manufacturer had to pay
the Guide Plus people.

I'm willing to spend $200 more up front for a set with that
feature, which, I recall was the difference between the
set I bought and similar sets without the feature.

Compared to the non-interactive TV Guide torture channel,
Guide Plus is worth every cent I paid for it.

My Sony works just like your Magnavox. My previous SONY also worked
like that. I wonder if the OP has tried selecting a channel and
waiting a second or two to see what happens.

My Sony goes back to the original station after a while if I don't
press Enter.

My Zenith goes by what numbers I have entered, but takes quite a while
to be sure I'm not entering any other numbers.

And my my bedroom tv works perfectly, like Bill's Magnavox. I'll post
the brand of that later.
