Yes indeedy, tube amps are wonderful - theres many a semi retired
technician who still makes useful money from fixing them (the same
every 6 months or so...) most younger techs have hysterics when
confronted by more than 12v supply rails, and have never learnt the
"calibrated screwdriver" method of HT testing. The parts are expensive
and usually either 50 years old or modern eastern european rubbish.
HV capacitors are still available, as are 1 watt resistors. Glad I
kept my 60w soldering iron, still comes in usefull after all these
years....
Arguing about valves versus solid state is a bit like arguing politics
- you will never convince anyone, but you can be sure that someone
will make money whoever/whatever wins.
