Sears VCR

I have a great Sears VCR made by Hitachi. It is model # 934.53520650. This unit has been a workhorse for me. After more than 20 years of service, it has it's first problem. The meagnetic pickup is not working. I know this because the unit does not sense the take up reel moving, so it shuts down after about 5-10 seconds. I checked all connections on the plug in cables. Is it usually the electronic pickup itself, or is it in the circuitry that supplies the voltage to the magnetic pickup?

Have you confirmed if the reels are really stopped or moving ?
Can be bad casette, the motor, the brake did not release, the supply to the sensor, the sensor, the sensor signal recognition, the stop actuator...
