Sangean RS-330 volume control is bonkers

D

DaveC

Sangean RS-330 AM-FM digital clock radio:

The minimum volume that this radio will allow is still audible and quite
high. The rotary volume control is turned all the way counter-clockwise, but
volume still persists. Otherwise, the volume control is linear and high
volume is possible.

The reset button has been tried; all that happens is that the APS (automatic
program search) initiates. I ran down the rechargeable battery to zero and
then pushed the reset button (after plugging in the power cord); no joy.

Any ideas what is up with this model? How it could be fixed? Is this symptom
experienced by other owners? Is there a recall or firmware update?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

This is surely deliberate, to ensure that you won't miss an alarm
by having turned the volume down to nil. Our Sony clock radio is
the same. If you want to turn the volume lower than this minimum,
you have to cancel the alarm first.

It does seem deliberate at first glance, but it didn't always function this
way. When new, when you turned on the radio (as opposed to it turning on
automatically, via alarm) the volume would go to zero when you turn the knob
far left (CCW). This has changed.

Anyone else have this experience with this model, or other Sangeans?

Thanks,
