Resistor for motor to slow speed..

Hi
Im using this motor with a 9v battery, the motor is a bit strong is there a resistor i can put on the motor to slow it down a bit?

Voltage 4.5-12 V

Power 1-5 W

Current 100-450 mA

A resistor for speed control is not at all the best way, you can get a 555 based PWM on ebay for a couple of $$.
Or very easy to build.
If this a pump you can also throttle the output.

Or connect in series a 12V light bulb, choose its watts to suit the desired speed.
Connecting diodes in series will drop each 0.7V to the supplied voltage to slow down to desired speed.
But mind that if you are sensing it as 'bit strong' when dry, you need to check it pumping fluid to the height that it has to deliver.

And if you are using smoke alarm battery , forget it.

You can only use a resistor if the motor is driving a steady, unchanging load as if the load changes then the resistance required to maintain a constant speed will also need to change.

This is why motor speed control is normally done using a 'controller' rather than a simple resistor.

What is the application? Considering a few hundred mA consumption, I'd sooner switch to a series of AAA cells to reach a target voltage instead of a typical 9V battery which has what, around 320mAh?

I'd go for a simple PWM circuit using a 55 and transistor.
