Replacing "normal" electrolytic cap with "low leakage" - adverse effects?

One problem with guys like me at this site is that I don't know enough to help anyone... I'm just looking for help and feel just slightly guilty about it. My parts book for a particular tape deck only shows two "low leakage" electrolytic caps. I don't think I've done this but if I ever replace a "normal" - for lack of a better word - with a "low leakage" capacitor will there be adverse effects in the circuits? Just curious.

Leakage in capacitors can have adverse effects on different types of circuits. Low voltage circuits will act different than high voltage circuits. A good web page to read about capacitor substitutions rules is this one. http://www.niccomp.com/help/capsubguide.asp Hope that helps.

No problems. You can replace any normal electro with a low leakage version.
