Rebuild Makita 9.6v tool stick type battery ?

I have two drills and 3 dead 9.6v stick style NiCd battery packs and
want to rebuild the batteries . What size cells does this take ? Any
other tips are appreciated . - thanks

The cell size depends on the model and series of the drill. You will have
to open them up, and see what they are. Many of cell sizes they use are not
standard sizes off the shelves. When buying the cells separately, you may
find it cheaper to buy the original complete pack from the Makita dealer.

Last time I looked,You could buy a 9.6V Makita stick at HD for $29USD.

If I recall correctly, these are sub-C cells. I have successfully opened a
Makita stick and been able to replace the dead cells with ones that still
worked from another dead stick. The biggest problem was then getting the
case sealed back up. (I used glue)

The "fixed" stick worked for about another year and then had the same
problem (dead cells that don't hold a charge). I agree with the OP who said
Home Depot sells replacements for about $30. Wait for a sale and pick a new
one up...

Normally, those cells are "worked" inside the case according to the size of the
drill..i.e 9.6, 12, etc. They are formed inside the case and if one goes bad,
you have to cut the old one and solder in the replacement. I do not know of any
supplier for those kind of cells. I've fixed a couple of those by discarding
half good ones and using the remaining still good cells.
