RCA VCR Mdl VR634HF

This is an old machine but it has worked well until now. When I turn it on the display on the front of the machine says "SAFE" for about 10 sec then turns off. There is no TV, DVD player, or cable box plugged into it. Has anyone run across this before?

Sir DaveR . . . . .

Seems like either you or some rug rats randomly kadoodling with all of the remote controls buttons got it into " C lock" mode.
NO . . .that's not Channel Lock . . . but CHILD lock.
If you do find that button on your remote *****, hold it down while the remote is being pointed at the VCR for about 10 seconds, to be sure.
NO GO . . . ? . . .then hold the power button down for a like length of time.

Lastly . . .commit suicide . . . . . .o r r r r r r r . . . . .take out the remotes batteries and contemplate your navel for about 5 minutes and then reinstall them and power up the unit and then see what happens.

***** We don't even know if you are using the RCA FACTORY ORIGINAL remote, so we may have need of a closeup of the remotes button tops / side labels.

Thasssssssssit . . . .

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride, the first thing that he does is to stick his head out the window, into the wind, all with a great big smile on his face?

Thanks Edd. We were using a universal remote for the last, oh, 73 years, but the on/off button did the trick.
