RCA Model P46732BA Projection-New Problem-Parental Control

R

Ron Novini

New problem with RCA Model P46732BA (Chassis PTK 169 PGA Projection TV.
Originally, set would lose video intermittently. I had notice that there
was soldering work done previously on main chassis and 8000 convergence
board and 7000 convergence amp board (red). Video was re-established
when
components re-soldered on SPIP board. After running for several days,
(turn-on, run for an hour, shutoff for an hour), a new wrinkle appeared.
Turned on set. An audible pop was heard on the speaker. Then the line,
" Parental Co " appeared on the screen. I assumed that it stood for
parental
control with the section "ntrol" missing. The colors blue and green were
predominate,
but red missing. I didn't realize that a V-Chip could be involved.
However, front
panel and remote keys were disabled. When you pressed "menu" on the
keyboard or remote,
the screen went dark momentarily and then the line re-appeared. Shutting
down the set
for a short time and sometimes unplugging it and turning it back on did
not change the problem. However, when left unplugged overnight, the next
morning, the set turned on without a hitch. Firstly, can the PIP be
bypassed
(as in Mitsubishi sets with the infamous Sony circuit) or disabled?
Secondly,
where should I be looking at to prevent this Parental Control
phenomenon?
Please help. Ron
