Quick Server Move

Ian

Administrator
The current server is running low on disk space, so I'm making a quick jump to a replacement server with plenty in reserve :).

As the site is quiet this morning, I'll do the move right now, as it should only take a couple of minutes.

The only potential problem is that for the next day or so, people who have old DNS entries may find that attachments to the site end up on the old server. I'll move them over manually as I notice them for the next 48h to keep them in sync (although if it does happen, it won't be many!).

Currently (2014-11-09, 19:23) the connection is almost unbearably slow. It is not my internet connection, other websites load at normal speed.

Thanks for letting me know Harald - could you do me a favour and ping electronicspoint.com from the command prompt please and let me know the IP it thinks the site is on? I wonder if the old domain is running slow in sync mode - if so, it should speed up when your dns updates (within 24h). You can run ipconfig /flushdns if you are on a Windows system to try and speed things up :)

Sorry Ian, I went offline after my post so I didn't read your request.
Today everything looks fine again in the browser. Ping fails with "timeout exceeded" (my translation, I get a German error message).

Glad to hear it's working properly now :). I think it must have been the DNS updating and I guess the old server was struggling with the sync.

Sadly passed away in 2015
I'm not getting any automated emails when new threads are posted in the forums I watch, or when new posts are made in the threads I watch.

When I view those forums and threads, they still say "Unwatch forum" and "Unwatch thread" at the top, which means that XenForo still thinks I'm subscribed to them.

Any suggestions?

Now that a couple of days have passed, how are people finding the speed of the site compared to other forums? Is it quite responsive when clicking on links on-site?

To me it doesn't feel noticeably faster or slower than the old server (apart from my initial problem :) ). I'm sorrry I can't compare it to other fora.

That's good news then Harald :D.

The reason I ask is that it seems the same speed to me (relatively fast), but if I enable debug mode it shows that pages render slower then I'd expect - however the site feels very responsive. I tried debugging it further, but it's running at full speed so I'm inclined to ignore the stats and go with how it feels :).

It's working pretty good for me.
It takes between 1.5 and 2.5 seconds for a full page load, but loads in less than 1 second for pages with caches content (Homepage)
