Protel99SE - no vias at pads

C

Christoph

hi!
can anybody tell me, where i can define in protel99se, that the
autorouter places no vias at pads?
i´d like to design a 2-layer layout to solder by hand. so there must
not be vias directly at pads of components. because i can´t solder
them on the toplayer...

many thanks in advance!!

Sorry, don't know Protel, but as a general rule: vias should never be on
pads, they suck away the solder. I know, I've tried it (

Another rule: don't use the autorouter.

You shouldn't _have_ to solder at the top layer, if they're actually
plated-through holes. It's all one conductor, you see. There is
absolutely nothing wrong with using leads as vias - if you've got
plated-thru holes, do you solder ordinary components that have a trace on
the component side? It's the same thing.

Good Luck!

Which is why it is so obvious that he was talking about boards
without plated holes.

I agree with Deefoo: avoid the auto-router as much as possible.

However, try with this learning guide
http://www.altium.com/files/learningguides/AR0128 Situs Autorouting Essentials.pdf.
It's about DXP version and it can differ from 99SE but maybe could help
you to find a solution to your problem: for example, as it says on page
5, try to put Via Control (if you have it on 99SE) to minimum (slowest
auto-routing).

Regards and good luck,

Quitus.

thank you...!

and what about non-plated-through holes? when the pcb is not been
manufactured?
how should the "top-pad" been connected to the lead without soldering?

@Quitus: thank you - with the via control setting to minimum i have
less vias - this i also don´t want to...
