Power Source adapter

Hi Everyone
Im from country uses (220 volt , 50 Hz) and I bought a device from another country works at (110 volt, 60Hz), I want to use this device in my county, does it work if I connect it with an external resistor in series (just to absorb the extra voltage), if no then what should I do?

What is the "device".?

Because . . . . . . we need to know if that device is frequency sensitive . . . . like a record players speed if old school AC motor drive..

AND, most importantly, the devices wattage consumed . . . . . since you would typically only use this inefficient procedure ( 1/2 power loss) for low wattages.
BIG resistors are expensive , inefficient, run hot and just not a viable work around. As also are high power variacs and isolation / step down transformers.
