I have got a few RTCs sensors to fit on some duct work. In the manual they instruct people to fix them on the upper side of the duct. I was wondering would it be wrong to put them right on top of the ducting?

It's a simple metallic duct, dimensions are about 500mm by 200mm; the average plantroom temperature is about 25 degrees. The purpose of the duct work is to intake outside air, run it through AHU unit and provide fresh air to other rooms. Temperature is being controlled by BMS systems, but I don't think it would go more than 30 degrees inside the duct. Electrical Thermal Release device operates at 75 degrees.
The velocity of the air in the duct is everything. That whole "hot air rises" thing is irrelevant whenever a fan is involved. So if the linear air velocity is anything above about 0.5 m/s, the sensors can go anywhere.
