please identify ceiling sensor at workplace

There is a sensor mounted to the suspended ceiling where I work which
I would like identified (without asking them). It is tan plastic,
cone-shaped with rounded tip pointing down. I looked above the ceiling
and there is a heavy 3/4" cable coming down, metal-jacketed covered in
blue plastic, this then has a connector where the cable changes to a
much smaller black cable, looks like coax cable, which then runs to
the sensor head. No markings. Any idea what it is? Could be for HVAC
system, fire, or ? Thanks.

Antenna.
Does your company have an in-house radio paging system? Like a hospital?

It sounds like an indoor cellular repeater antenna for maby Nextel. We
have them here to allow cell phnoes to work inside the building when
it is just out of range of the local cell tower. Look on the roof of
the building and you will probably see a yagy antenna pointed at the
local cell tower.

Hope this helps.

P.S.. it could also be device to allow alians to read your thoughts
:)

Yes, we definately could have cellular repeater antennas in here, it
is a high tech company, everyone walks around on cellphones. Thanks
all.

If you are a high tech co., I'd have a tendancy to believe they are AP
repeaters for a Wi-Fi system. Lots of PDA's and wireless laptops around?
