Please help with my DIY electric bicycle

Hello, I am new to electronics, but I'm very interested, especially in salvaging and repurposing things for DIY projects. I would like very much to build an electric bicycle. What kinds of devices would have a motor appropriate for this? I like the bike in this video
but I want to encorporate the neodymium magnets and coils used here: https://archive.org/details/history-hacker-pilot the bicycle generator is explained about 9 minutes in. By doing this, can I recharge the battery as I ride, is this possible? Also, if I don't alternate the magnets I should get dc power right? This should charge the battery? What size capacitors would I need for this? I'm thinking of putting a set of coils on each side of a tire so I create more electricity. I am also wondering if it would be possible to wire these batteries http://www.sciplus.com/p/36-VDC-BATTERY_40596 in succession to make my own battery pack, or is this not practical? m interested in any help or insight you guys can offer. Thanks in advance.

You are probably better off buying a battery pack, a suitable motor, a controller etc, or even a kit. It will end up being cheaper in all probability.

The only practical way to harvest energy is via dynamic braking, and you're not going to get a lot since (long downhills and extremely strong tailwinds aside) you're losing most of the energy via wind resistance.
