Plasma Ball Fun!?!

C

Cory B

Hey all, I hope some of you have had a bit of fun with the little
plama balls they sell at gift shops etc. I have a rather nice 8" ball
that is very fun to watch, and I know that you can place a metal
object on it to bring the spark outside of the ball, however, I was
wondering about other fun things that can be done with these... A
google search seems to turn up very little useful information, so as
usual I will turn to the appropriate usenet group... I'm interested
in any information at all really, but particularly information
regarding the possibilities of what to do with it should the globe
break etc, also what are the possible things that I would want to
avoid doing to it in an experiment (that are not obvious) that may
damage it? I appreciate it very much, hopefully a few (or more!) of
you have some experiences that you can share and even if you just have
some crazy ideas please share those too ( marked as crazy ideas if you
would please... And no I will not stick a ring on it then lick the
ring... :) ) Thanks all!

It is a toy, nothing else.
If it breaks, then "air" (nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, etc) will
leak in (i believe there is a partial vacuum) and the argon will diffuse
out.
