Pioneer CLD-S104 tray motor doesn't turn

E

Eodyg

The thing will power up and the "CD/LD" buttons will flash, then it sets an
error code, usually U1. I've had the thing apart about three times.

Reseating the ribbon cables helped twice. This time, no go.

The limit switches seem to work fine. It just looks like the motor isn't
getting any juice when it's supposed to.

Can anyone shed any light on this, or help me find a place which repairs LD
players?

Thanks in advance!

Check the ribbon cables with an ohm meter, or try new ones, to see if
they are opened. Check that the sockets are making proper contact, and
that the socket pins are not cold soldered.

Another approach is to test for proper drive voltage to the motor. If
not, trace back to see where the loss is. Check the logic control to
see if there is proper demand to move the motor. Also, check the
performance of the positional sensors, and their related circuits. You
will need the service manual to get in to any details of your player.

Considering the low cost of these players, it may pay to replace it,
if you have to spend a lot of time and cost to service it.

A code U1 indicates that the disc is not mounting properly. Considering the
age of the unit, it may be time to replace the main advance belt for the
traverse elevation loading mechanism. Any competent repair shop should be able
to deal with this problem.

If this player has any serious problems that would be too expensive to fix,
replacing the player is the best course of action as the CLD-S104 is a very low
end LD player. - Reinhart
