Philips 60" RPTV (9P6031CI) won't hold focus or brightness

Hi all,

Tried the usual probing with a non-conductive stick on the flyback and
other components and none seem to affect what is occurring. This
happens with all 3 colors. It'll go dark to the point there is barely
a visible picture then suddenly go to full brightness. The image also
comes in and out of focus. No evidence of coolant leakage. Doesn't
seem to be a heat related issue, as it does this upon power up and for
as long as the set is on. I'll be pulling the boards to esr the caps
and check all solder joints, but hoped someone has come across this
particular issue and might have a solution or pointer on where to
concentrate troubleshooting. Thanks,

Jack

you need a new focus hv splitter check with your local tv shop or
philips for replacement or call electronicx.com

Well, I was about ready to order one when I decided to pull the board
and check on the caps and solder joints, only to find the lead from the
flyback to the focus pack had a disentigrated retaining clip under the
boot, which allowed the lead to come part way out. Repaired the clip
and seems that took care of the problem. Thanks,

Alex
