panasonic home theater system won't turn on

I have a panasonic sa-pt660 home theater system that will not turn on. Nothing happens when power is pushed. I tried unplugg/replugging but nothin. Please help if u can, would appreciate it...

Don't know where to find them. I have never been inside one of these.
If you take the top off, you will see where the mains power comes in. There will be a fuse close to it.
Or on the back a fuse holder (circular) black item.
And of course, do not take the top off without unplugging the unit.
Have you got a multimeter? If not it's a very necessary first tool.
Keep us posted.

Yes I have a multimeter but only no how to test voltage with it. I learned this while making numerous different types of capacitors. My first learning experiment.lol

Safely not really.
You can do a visual check of capacitors on the power supply for leakage or bulging.
Have you checked the mains cable for continuity?

Otherwise the unit will need to be plugged in and test for voltages on the primary side first.

Please don't laugh... what will bad capacitors look like, how do I check for continuity?

Sorry my image is too big.
Search for bad capacitors and view them from images.
You will get the idea.
Continuity is probably on your meters 1 o'clock symbol.
Put dial there and touch the two probes together. It should give an audible beep.

Ok, got images and get the pic. Lol also I have the setting on meter, but how do I check the continuity and where?

Does it beep when you touch probes together?
Testing continuity of fuses, wires etc will beep when you probe both ends of a wire or fuse.
eg: get a length of wire or a fuse and put a probe from the meter to each side. It should beep. that would normally show the fuse is good etc.

So no beep means it's bad, does this work with all componants, which ones would cause no power at all

You have not confirmed that you get a beep yet!!

No it doesn't work with all components.
Causes of no power is very wide.
You don't know whether you have power yet.

Yes I get a beep, and the screen says open if the leads r not touching. When I plug the unit in and press power, nothing happens

I am just reading the service manual.
CAUTION, don't go probing around!!!
Unplug it and first check for continuity on the mains cables.

I am not comfortable with this BTW.
Are you competent in checking voltages?

Thank u for the answers and help. Am I competent? I know that I am safe and never do anything without knowing the possible outcome and making sure I have taken any precautions necessary, so yes I am. If u aren't comfortable helping a beginner learn and/or fix somthing, I am wondering if the rest of the members here are all professionals. Maybe I should find a new site. Thanks for the attempt though

Nobody mentioned not helping you. This is probably the best forum on the web!!
Have you verified that the mains cable is not damaged. Continuity.
Have you checked the internal fuse. Continuity.
If all is ok so far, plug in the unit and check for supply voltage coming in. Is that correct?
Check the cables going to the power swith. And the switch itself.
You have to start somewhere and continue along the line. Have a read about transformers, thermistors, switching regulators
and how to test them.
Also diodes and bridge rectifier checking. These can be checked with continuity.

Your unit is quite complex, but I think the fault will be on power supply.
