Panasonic 5-Disc stereo jammed

S

Simon Ferguson

Hi everyone,

I've got a Panasonic 5-disc stereo (SA-AK48) which slipped a couple of CDs
the other day. After opening it, removing the CDs and placing the little
plastic rings which separate them inside the changer back together it now
doesn't really want to work.

Mechanically it seems fine and everything is where it should be, but
whenever it's turned on it flashes 'CHANGE', then opens the tray and
displays 'TAKE OUT DISC', even though it's empty. Can't find the manual and
all I found online was a Russian version of a similar model, the translation
for that seems to say that message comes up sometimes if there's a power
failure (like when I had to disconnect the plug to stop it trying to close
the tray while the CDs were jamming it up). Apparently if I take the disc
out and turn it back on everything should be fine, not the case though.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,
Simon

An idea would be to look for nay really small switches that move when CDs
change position. A microswitch may be stuck on or off as the case may be and
just needs to be reset

Thanks, I had a look around but couldn't find any more than two
microswitches which were both working correctly.

I found the manual and it says the error appears when power is lost while
doing a CD operation, and that closing the tray will reset it. Still doesn't
work for me though, it seems to be having trouble initialising. I've noticed
that the clock can be set but forgets the time as soon as the stereo is
turned off.

I guess then that the back-up battery or SuperCap could be looked at, though
why it would cause these symptoms I don't know. Maybe it's causing the uP to
be scrambled...? If you can find the uP reset pin you may be able to find
out more.

Without some sort of service manual I wouldn't really know where to go
looking for the way to reset the processor. Might be time to take it in to
the service centre unfortunately.

Cheers,
