Optimus CD-7200 Missing Lens

The title pretty much says it all. Someone gave me an Optimus CD-7200 Six-disc changer saying that it wouldn't read discs. I tried cleaning it with no luck and eventually took it apart for a visual inspection. Upon removing the pickup section, I realized that the lens was missing. I've checked everywhere inside the unit and have been unable to find it. Unfortunately, Google turned up that this isn't the first time this model has had this problem.

I'm fairly new to working on CD players like this one, but my question is can I pull a lens from a different CD player and glue it in place? How precise does the geometry have to be to make it work? If the lens is slightly larger/smaller will it fail? If it sits a hair higher or lower than the original lens will it have trouble focusing?

I'm hoping someone in the forum is a bit of an expert and save me hours of testing and just point me in the right direction. Thanks

As far as spare part for laser assemblies goes I believe they are sold 'complete' and that alignment of such parts is so critical that individual elements of them are not generally available.

Have you looked for a replacement laser assembly? Got a part number for it?

I'd have to really look to see if there's a part number specific to the assembly, but I have searched for the assembly based on the model number of the CD player itself with no luck. Here's hoping for an assembly number

You've nothing to lose by trying. Even a drop of clear superglue would naturally form a lens shape and might suffice.

Given the CD track widths and the limited distance between lens and surface I suspect you'd be very, very lucky indeed to get a result!

Yeah.. I was hoping someone would just say "Sure! All CD player lenses are identical!", but if that's not the case then isle figure out a different way to fix it. I don't think filling the spot with super glue is quite what I'm after

If you have any old PC CDROM mechanisms lying around then take it apart on see what's 'happening' - you might get lucky.
