Off-grid water pumping

B

BIGtimber

I have a off grid vacation home in Baja Mexico. We are currently having
water supply issues, and I am looking to setup a backup water supply system.
I will be purchasing a 250-500ga water tank which will be about 6' off the
ground and filled from a float. I need to pump the water to two bathrooms,
washing machine, and a kitchen with reverse osmosis system.

I am looking for pump recommendations. I assume it would have to be a
on-demand pump, but am unsure of what flow rate to look for. I have a AC
line run near the tank, but could go DC if necessary. I have a Outback
VFX3600 48v inverter, 36 Photowatt PW750 panels (72v strings) and 32 US2200
batteries.

http://www.solar-electric.com/water-dankoff-flowlight.html Popular
efficient booster pumps. Best with a large pressure tank, usually 40
to 80 gallons. Delivery rate a little lower than normal household
booster pumps, but should be fine unless your needs are unusual.

These are nice, less pressure variation, less plumbing, soft start.
Only needs a small pressure tank. I haven't seen one off-grid yet, so
be sure to check the idle current draw. That page shows it in a well,
but it can also be installed inside a tank, works fine from vertical
to horizontal. Best if transducer and pressure tank both near the
house if the storage tank is remote.

This, or many similar models should also be suitable and less
expensive.

Check the RO unit for pressure requirement.
