Nichia Blue and Green LEDs

B

Bob

Are there any green or blue LEDs comparable to the
Nichia units that are available at less than the $2 each
(in lots of 100) that Nichia wants?

Thanks for any help.

I can't say how close the quality is, compared to Nichia, but I have
gotten some very good devices from Chi Wing in Hong Kong through Ebay
for a fraction of this cost (like $0.25 each). I especially like the
ocean green color.

Doesn't anyone make a super-bright purple led? Come to think of it, I
don't believe I've seen purple in any brightness at all.

Chi Wing sold me some of what they call ultraviolet (deep blue right
on the edge of the visible spectrum), but I wouldn't call them purple.
They also sell pink and purple ones that are based on a combination
of blue led with two different red phosphors, but I haven't bought any
of them to play with, yet.

Nichia sells you top quality parts, graded to different ranks. If you
pay less, you will probably get lower quality. Which do you want?
Lower price or top quality?

Thanks for any help.

Purple being the combination of red and blue? I connected a red and
blue in series and put 25 mA thru them, and I get a magenta where the
beams overlap. Or do you mean a wavelength shorter than blue, which
is violet, and then ultraviolet at even shorter wavelengths.
