This is to let you know about a new site for the advancement of
electronics related subjects. Currently our English version of the
resistor color codes calculator, e-list (an e-mail discussion group) &
forum (an online discussion group) are up and running. On the
remaining 7 languages of our resistor color codes calculator, there is
a bug, which we are currently working on.

We are looking for moderators for our forum & e-list (if you don't
know what that means then don't apply ). Seeing as this is a
non-profit project, moderators should not expect to get paid. Only
apply to [email protected] if your mother tongue is English.

color codes calculator is a free of charge online service, together

So if you use them all the time, you know the colors of course. Even
then, a tool may still be useful...

E.G. Have a look at what is possible with ours. (Only one language I
know.) Just try it, anyway. If enough people happen to like it, I may

I learned 2 different mnemonic phrases (in English) for remembering the
color codes. Do they have any in Dutch?

Yes, there are a few. I'd say the most popular phrase is "Zij BRacht
Rozen Op GErrit's GRaf Bij Vies Grijs Weer".

In dutch the colors are: Zwart, BRuin, Rood, Oranje, GEel, GRoen,
Blauw, Violet, GRIJS and Wit.

The phrase means "She put roses on Gerrits grave in nasty gray
wheather" where Gerrit is a rather common dutch name.

I have attempted a translation of our calculator in english. Please
don't hesitate to let me know how to improve it. ;-)

correct version, which I can never remember.

It used to be "Violet goes wild, get some now!" to
include the tollerance bands of gold, silver and none =20%

I'm not going to make fun of this guy . . .
.. . . my over-fifty eyeballs have a tough time getting values off the
SMT and 1% parts that supposedly have the value "obviously" printed on
them.

For example, "223" might be 22K . . . or maybe it's a mfgr date code
for June (23rd week) of 2002. Or maybe the "3" is really an "8" with
some ink scratched off. Or maybe I'm looking at it upside down and
it's "355".

So if I have trouble with plain text markings, who am I to criticize
somebody who has problems with color codes?

Ehm... doesn't work!?

Gold and silver are before black in the multiplier band and gold,
silver and none are beyond red in the tolerance band (and in the
latter case the other colors are in a different order too)???

the only other language into which I could attempt to translate the
page without help. ;-)

Most do 4 band resistors. Most can do 5 band, except for the
tolerance indicator band.

Not many can do six band ppm readings without a reference.

What he should do is add a field where the user puts a value, and
the bands automatically update to the correct colors. Also, his
colors are off. Way off, some of them. Like the red.
