New Riddle for test equipment prize.

I am all oscillations but only interested in one,
I have been beat down so only one apex is low.
If you understand my maps, you will know me,
Once one shade but now I have many more.

What am I?

I think I will keep this based on electronics, if I change I will state so in the message. This is very specific.. Lets make this one for the scope. Don't have the model number it still works, but will need new batteries.

Changed my mind on test equipment, since most of you might have a scope, I will give you the choice of the scope or a function generator, I think its good to 250Mhz, I will check this weekend to make sure. I don't post on the weekends and mine is Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

The contest will run for 2 weeks unless solved sooner.

If this is going to be the interest, I am just going to donate my equipment to the Salvation Army or something. At least there I can use it for a deduction. I will let this one run out. Thought this would be fun, but guess its not.

How about a laser?
Light has oscillations of many frequencies, but a laser has a single mode.
The first lasers used to be based on ruby emitting red light only. Today many colors can be produced.

oscillations = frequency interested in one= center frequency
beat down=low, one apex low=2 side lobes 1 lobe is high, called side lobe suppression
maps=a display on a crt/lcd
one shade=one color monochrome, many=a color screen

Answer=radar

I am not a engineer, I am just a technician.

Last post, good bye all have a great life.

I don't care what Jotto said, I still think it's KJ6EAD's notch filter.
Hope the Salvation Army doesn't get all his test gear.

Oh Geez. I was trying to make a U.S. Technician-grade joke.
KrisBlueNZ, you must be an engineer.
Just my attempt at low-brow humor (that fell flat).
