Wow, what a contraption. I thought toroids were wound by hand in some
Mexican sweatshop. Well, maybe it's still a sweatshop, but now I know
that they don't have to be wound by hand.. ;-)

Wow, what a contraption. I thought toroids were wound by hand in some

That was the coolest thing I saw when my Dad brought me to the IRE
convention in New York, to spark my interest in Radio and Electronics.

That was in 1955, before the Institure of Radio Engineers became the
IEEE.

Cool. Got any 88 mH loading coil toroids from telephone lines? There
used to be all sorts of ham projects that used them, like audio
filters, etc.

Actually what I'd like to get are a half dozen or so Amidon FT-37-77
cores.
