Need opinions on the Generac 7000EXL Generator, please

Im seriously considering a Generac 7000 EXL model which will be tied
into my electrical panel. I just want it mainly for critical loads in
case of a power outage...like : the well pump (1/2 h.p) , the Furnace
Motor (1/3 h.p.) , the fridge, t.v., and some lights.
What is your opinion of the Generac brand ?? I can buy this model, new,
for $1318.00 delivered from Norwal Energy Systems. (i tried Harbor
Freight but they dont have this model).

I bought a 7550XL back in the summer. It ran the whole house for a day
during Hurrican Charly. Not bad on gas. Very Satisfied.

I have the 6500 watt Generac. Have you seen any of the optional
electric starters anywhere for these? It would be nice to have an
autostart setup when the outage hits and it shouldn't be that hard to
alter the solenoid setup..

I wired mine to some SEOJ #12 cable and moved the switch to the carport.
I added a 12volt ford solenoid to the genny so I could remote start it.
Mine is tied to the house into an unused 40 amp breaker (double pole). I
am going to add a relay that will stop the unit when power is availabe
again. And before the bashing starts, I know I should have a transfer
switch. As a test once, I closed the main breaker to the utility feed to
see what would happen (no power on the utility, BTW.) The Genny breaker
tripped right then. The only way you're gonna kill a lineman is if he is
reconnecting the power TO YOUR HOME, that has been SEVERED FROM THE
GRID, while he is grounded and holding the bare end of the wire. I doubt
many of us have a genny capable of powering our neighborhood, much less
an entire grid. And yes, I worked for Duke Power in NC for a short time.

What happens when you back feed a transformer?

Low voltage in and WHAT comes out the other side? MEDIUM VOLTAGE.

I use P.T.'s all of the time to make Jacob's ladders. 120 v in and 15kv out.

You do not have to power the grid. Just energize an line to kill some one. I
am sure glad I live on the other side of the country from someone who
equates money to the lives of others. You would not happen to be in
politics would you?

I see why you only worked there for a SHORT TIME. They fired you for
incompitance. Preety obvious from your post........ Only a Morooooon
(bugs bunny definition) would consider doing the above!
