Hi,
Although the TF2700 is a basic LCR bridge, it can give
you 'loss angle' and 'Q' figures that can't be obtained
from many of the current range of DVMs with attitude. So
email me your postal address and I'll send you a copy of
the manual.
Meanwhile to check the instrument, here are the steps
for measuring a capacitor. As you would need to connect a
polarising voltage to the instrument to measure
electrolytics correctly, it is better for the time being
not to bother. Also, in case you are wondering, the meter
only swings between centre and right full-scale for
capacitors and inductors.
1. Connect the component to the test terminals.
2. Select the range full-scale, appropriate to the
expected value of capacitance, with the FUNCTION and RANGE
MULTIPLIER SWITCHES.
3. Set the D-Q switch to D x 0.1.
4. Set the LOSS BALANCE control to 1, and the
SENSITIVITY control to give a meter deflection of less than
full-scale.
5. Balance the bridge with the main BALANCE and LOSS
BALANCE controls, increasing the sensitivity to keep the
meter deflection above zero until the SENSITIVITY control
is fully clockwise.
Cheers - Joe
