need help to build a timing gate

I am looking to build my own timing gear.

I need to have a 6 digit lcd display (minuits,seconds,mili-seconds)

The timer will need to have 2 inputs 1 to start timer the 2nd to stop timer.

It would need to be battery opperated (12v dc) with built in charger

Can anyone help me with this

I've hacked digital stopwatches for that kind of timer. What are the inputs for Start and Stop?
