Need help repairing GE microwave

Z

Zap

Greetings,

I would be most appreciative if someone could help me fix the safety
lockout on a GE Microwave/Convection oven. The model is J VM290WV 001.

The problem I encounter is that the microwave will light up and the time
will even count down, but the fan does not start, nor is it cooking the
food, so it appears that for some reason only half of the interlock is
working when the door is closed. If you gently pull the door just a bit,
things kick in and the microwave works. I am guessing the interlock switch
is faulty, or there is something in that circuit that is amiss. Any help
with part numbers and how to get inside are much appreciated!

Thanks!

www.repairfaq.org has a section on microwave ovens. Pay extra special
attention to the SAFETY issues as a microwave oven opened up is one
appliance that can KILL you, even when unplugged if the capacitor has a
charge left on it.

And since it sounds like you can fiddle with the door and get it to kick
in, either one or more interlock switches are defective or something is
out of alignment or come loose.
